What you should know about Decorative Concrete Overlays
Concrete overlays can provide a solution for several problems especially where the substrate surface has scaled or been chipped, where it needs to be used to level minor indentations and fill imperfections, and most importantly, it can be used to cover tiles that are firmly laid without going to the trouble of having to remove them.
It is important to note however, that a decorative overlay cannot be used on all existing concrete or tiled floors. Most importantly, the existing substrate must be sound, ideally with hardness of 25mpa or greater. If the existing concrete substrate is badly cracked, flaking, re-laminating, splintering, is fragmenting, is damaged by rising efflorescence, where it is resting on unstable soil or there is movement in the substrate, resurfacing with a decorative overlay will not repair structural problems occurring within the substrate as it will not solve your problems. This is when total replacement by casting a new slab will be your best option.
Your Afristone Decorative Concrete Representative will provide you with the best solution for your Floors, so before tearing out the concrete or covering it with carpet or tiles consider installing a decorative concrete overlay. When properly installed, it will last as long as the concrete substrate it has been applied on.
